Auto Club 400 Post-Race Report
28th-Place Finish For Allgaier at Auto Club
FONTANA, Calif. (March 24, 2014) - Under sunny skies at Auto Club Speedway, Justin Allgaier made his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at the 2.0-mile track. Allgaier earned his best starting position, 28th, of the 2014 season on Friday afternoon. With smooth practices on Saturday, Allgaier and the No. 51 team were ready for the Auto Club 400 on Sunday. After a green-white-checkered ending to the 200-lap race, Allgaier brought the BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet home in the 28th position for HScott Motorsports.
When the green flag flew on Sunday afternoon, Allgaier maintained a top-30 position. With Allgaier's feedback, crew chief Steve Addington called for adjustments each time the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy came down pit road. After making five pit stops and not seeing any tire wear issues, Allgaier continued to wheel his car around the 2.0-mile track.
On lap 106, Allgaier radioed in that he had blown a tire and brushed the wall. He immediately came down pit road under the green flag for an unscheduled pit stop and the No. 51 pit crew changed four tires. After the stop, Allgaier headed back to the track, but he was one lap down. Unfortunately, Allgaier was never able to get back on the lead lap and finished in the 28th position for HScott Motorsports.
Justin Allgaier on Auto Club Speedway:
"We had a consistent weekend at Auto Club [Speedway]. We had our best starting spot this season, so that was a positive. I always enjoy racing at Auto Club because there's so many different racing grooves. Unfortunately, we had a little bad luck today when the tire blew. We kept missing the lucky dog by one spot each time the caution flag came out. Overall, it was a consistent weekend and our car improved towards the end of the race, but we were trapped a lap down. We will move on to next weekend at Martinsville [Speedway]."
